3. Natural Fibres

April 12, 2022

Natural fibres are raw materials derived from natural sources such as vegetables and animals and can be converted into fabrics that are non-woven by spinning into yarns. These are used widely because of their durability, strength, elasticity, absorbance, and resistance. These days natural fibres are used in various industrial and textile products. These fibres are known for their low carbon construction. Due to the hygroscopic nature of natural fibres, they are instrumental in storing and releasing moisture. This way can control condensation level thus internal air quality of house or basement if used as insulation material.

Some Natural fibers examples are listed below with their benefits-

  • Hemp- regulate moisture and prevent the growth of fungi or Moulds in buildings.
  • Sheep wool- low flammability, flexible so that it can fit into irregular shapes of buildings as well.
  • Cork- very lightweight, easy to install, perfect acoustic insulator
  • Coconut wool- noise insulator, good water-vapour permeability
